A Bit of History

Riad Inaya, located in one of the oldest parts of the medina, is a house that breathes authenticity. Restored with passion, every corner of the house tells a story. From the moment you arrive, you will be welcomed by two magnificent illuminated doors, renovated by local artisans. The main door, majestic, now serves its original function between the entrance hall and a more discreet room, while the second, characteristic of Moroccan double doors, has been restored to become a brilliant decorative element.

Craftsmanship at the Heart of Our Riad

At Riad Inaya, every element has been carefully restored by local artisans, highlighting traditional craftsmanship and Moroccan authenticity.

The Multicolored Zellige Fountain

Our riad is distinguished by a magnificent multicolored zellige fountain, created by a master Fassi artisan. Built entirely by hand, it is a unique and remarkable piece that enhances our entrance with its traditional motifs and vibrant colors.

The Souvenir Display

Located in an alcove of the patio, our souvenir showcase offers beautiful traditional silver jewelry, along with original and easily portable items. Perfect for our guests who wish to bring back an authentic gift from Fez, without getting lost in the winding alleys of the medina.

Traditional Woodwork

When we arrived, the ancient woodwork of the house was unrecognizable. After several months of restoration, the windows, doors, mashrabiya, and half-moons have regained their former glory, adorned with hand-painted Iraqi glass.

Iraqi Glass

Similarly, no colored Iraqi glass remained on the woodwork. We had them all remade, and we find the result truly remarkable. Iraqi glass is a precious tradition in ancient Arab houses.

Colorful Zellige
The clay is first shaped, then painted in ancestral primary colors and fired in the large kilns in the south of the city. The terracotta thus becomes “zellige,” which is integrated into all interior and exterior surfaces. In our house, zellige is present everywhere on the floors, and our fountain is entirely covered in it. We had a small corridor to decorate; the staggered installation of blue zelliges was particularly successful.
The Coppersmiths
The “dinandiers” of Fes have been working with metals for centuries, and Fes is the capital of this craft. Metal objects are numerous in Arab-Andalusian culture, and it is undoubtedly in the Fes medina that the most accomplished pieces are produced. At the riad, we have many light fixtures originating from Seffarine Square.
Monumental Doors
At the riad, we possess two beautiful ancient doors that we have highlighted and illuminated. The largest is likely the original entrance door of the house. Successive renovations over the decades prevent us from confirming this with absolute certainty, but it seems to be the case. We saved this door, which had lost all utility and was destined to be burned. We are delighted to see it showcased.
The Art of Damascene
“Damascening” is an ornamental technique originating from Damascus, Syria, consisting of inlaying silver threads into a darker metal object. This technique spread particularly during the Middle Ages in the Fes and Meknes regions, where a few original workshops still remain. Our Arabian horse comes from one of the last workshops in Fes, and we are very proud of it.
