Riad Inaya Fez

Is there a particularly interesting museum to visit within the medina?

September 17, 2025

There are several interesting museums in the medina of Fez. One remarkable exception in Morocco is the museum located in the Batha district. The “Al Batha Museum of Islamic Arts” is a major cultural institution, recently restored and inaugurated in February 2025 by King Mohammed VI as part of the medina’s rehabilitation project.

This museum, now a major attraction for both Moroccan and international visitors, showcases the richness of Moroccan civilization through a modern and interactive museography. It exhibits historical pieces ranging from the pre-Islamic era to the current Alaouite dynasty, highlighting themes such as the evolution of calligraphy, Morocco’s role in the transmission of knowledge, and traditional ways of life.

Among the remarkable objects are the original minbar of the Al-Andalous Mosque of Fez, as well as a large collection of rare manuscripts. The museum also dedicates a pavilion to the city of Fez itself, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance.

A must-see! However, plan your visit separately from your medina tour. To truly see and understand everything, and to enjoy the palace’s magnificent inner garden, allow at least half a day.
